it must have been a silent day [draft 1]

the ninth hour

it must have been silent that day
when centuries of prophesy-
nearly fulfilled-
heaved and sighed
took one last breath
struck the ancient chord
and fell to rest.
surely the man was the Son of God

all Jerusalem solemnly regards
the bitter wind with a heavenward gaze
a brief moment of hope- a plea
a deep shudder
not with chill, but the realization,
in a deafening silence,
of all that had passed before their eyes.

saturday

it must have been a silent day
the world not moving
in quiet discord
with that which had come to pass

what was to happen
has happened, almost
in silent pause
the truth lays buried now
in a cold a lifeless tomb
behind the stone
in that aching silence
the ache of the stillness
and all that had passed before their eyes.
